How a visualiser actually turns sound into a picture

The reason a visualiser hits the drop is not clever timing. It is that there is no timing at all. It is just reading the sound.

It measures the sound many times a second

A visualiser listens to your track constantly and separates out what it hears. Roughly: how much bass is happening right now, how much midrange, how much treble.

That gives it a picture of the track that changes constantly as it plays. Everything else is a decision about what those changes should move.

Those numbers drive the picture

Different styles use it differently. A spectrum turns each part of the track into the height of a bar. A waveform draws the shape of the sound itself. A 3D orb might let the bass push its surface outward while the treble sharpens the detail.

Because it is reading the track directly, a visualiser cannot be out of sync. There is nothing to line up. The picture is coming from the audio, so a drop lands visually at the exact moment you hear it.

Why that matters for promotion

This is the practical difference between a visualiser and a template overlay. A template is a video that happens to be playing while your music plays; a visualiser is made out of your music.

How does a music visualizer work?+
