Three to twelve segments
Set how many mirror segments the field folds through. Low counts read as bold and graphic; high counts get intricate and floral. The whole pattern is driven by your waveform.
Four fold symmetries
Radial for star and floral shapes, rectangular for a lattice, hexagonal for honeycomb, or diagonal for diamonds. Each one changes the character completely from the same track.
Twist, warp and zoom
Add spiral twist per unit radius, control warp amplitude and frequency for complexity, and set continuous zoom to fly into or out of the pattern. Four field modes: orb, rings, strand, and cell.

Two different things with the same name
The kaleidoscope effect in a video editor takes footage you already have and mirrors it into segments. Whatever was in the frame gets folded, and the result is symmetrical but has nothing to do with any audio.
A kaleidoscope visualiser generates the pattern from the track itself. There is no source footage: your audio is the input, folded through a mirrored field. That is why the pattern reshapes at the drop rather than continuing to spin at the same rate.
The settings that actually change the look
Four controls do most of the work, and they interact more than you would expect:
- Segment count, from three to twelve. Low is bold and graphic, high is intricate and floral.
- Fold symmetry. Radial gives stars and flowers, rectangular gives a lattice, hexagonal gives honeycomb, diagonal gives diamonds. This changes the character more than anything else.
- Twist, which spirals the pattern as it moves outward. A small amount reads as organic; a lot reads as a vortex.
- Movement, which flies continuously into or out of the pattern. Zero holds it static, which suits slower tracks.
When it is the right choice
A kaleidoscope is a poor choice when you want someone to read the audio off the picture, because the folding destroys any legibility. If the point is showing a mix or a technical breakdown, use the analyser or a scrolling waveform. Running it in split view next to one of those is the usual answer.
It is a strong choice when the goal is to stop a scroll. The symmetry reads as deliberate and the movement reads as hypnotic, and because it is driven by your track rather than applied to footage, two songs never produce the same clip from the same settings.
